Major Updates
- CBSE scraps additional
subject option for private students
From 2026 board exams onwards, private candidates will no longer be allowed to take additional subjects beyond their core/registered ones
- New rules for Class 10 &
12 (Board Exams 2026)
- Minimum 75% attendance
required to be eligible to appear in board exam
- Internal assessments have
become mandatory.
- The structure for Classes
10 & 12 is being viewed increasingly as a two-year programme (Class
IX + X for 10, and XI + XII for 12) to ensure continuous coverage.
- Registration rules for
Classes 9 & 11 for academic session 2025-26
CBSE has issued updated guidelines: APAAR ID linkage, verification slips, requirements for data accuracy, etc. Schools must ensure accurate subject combinations and personal/student details.
- New CBSE-international
school initiative in UAE
CBSE is planning to launch an international school(s) in the UAE. Also, several CBSE schools in UAE have joined the Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) programme.
- Ministry of Education’s
other updates
- Appointment of
Vice-Chancellors in central universities (e.g. Rajiv Gandhi University in
Arunachal Pradesh) among other administrative changes.
- India’s literacy rate has
risen: from ~74% to ~80.9% over the past ~13 years.
- Schools under CBSE, KVS,
NVS have been directed to screen the film “Chalo Jeete Hain”, inspired by PM Modi’s childhood, as
part of the experiential learning and value-education push.
